ADVOCACY & SOLIDARITYGESTA is the professional employee association for the approximately 1700 federal scientists, engineers, and technicians employed at the NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland, as well as employees at Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in NYC and Katherine Johnson IV&V Facility (KJIV&V) in West Virginia. We are run by volunteers, and advocate on behalf of our members in order to improve our working conditions in support of NASA's missions, and the critical service we provide to the scientific community and to the American public.
GESTA is a local affiliate of the IFPTE, along with other NASA centers. Working together with other federal IFPTE local affiliates we are able to network, learn, and advocate together regarding our working conditions, NASA policies, and other important issues that impact federal employees. |
LEGAL STANDING
Unlike typical associations, we have legal standing within NASA since we, the employees, have collective bargaining rights. Which means GESTA can negotiate policies that impact and improve our working conditions and careers.
|
COLLABORATION
We have a long history of partnership with GSFC officials to resolves issues that impede organization goals and come with policies that represent a win-win.
|
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is critical to everything we do. We are run by and for our members, who are GSFC federal employees. As members, we see the value of collaboration, discussion, and democracy in order to resolves challenges.

About IFPTE
The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE) is a non-profit, employee based organization made up of several autonomous affiliates and was founded in 1918. IFPTE advocates on behalf of more than 80,000 women and men, primarily in professional and technical positions, including all engineering disciplines, along with a wide variety of scientific and research professions, lawyers, administrative judges, and economists all within the private, public, and federal sectors. IFPTE has been a great resource over the years, providing us with best practices, legal, and guidance on a variety of issues. They also provide us access to a network of other organized professionals in related fields and occupations, including other NASA employee associations.
