NASA OIG Reporting Tutorial

12/27/2025

Below we provide a step-by-step walk through of the NASA Office of Inspector General (OIG) Hotline page for reporting information and concerns related to crime, waste, fraud and abuse.
  1. Navigate to https://oig.nasa.gov/hotline/.

2. Select the type of complaint:
  • Criminal - Violation of a specific law or regulation (citing the law or regulation will likely help your case).
  • Administrative - Misconduct that may not violate a specific law but could be classified as waste, fraud, or abuse. These typically involve flawed processes/structures instead of individual violations.
  • Civil - Generally similar to criminal investigation, but less severe in nature. Things like false claims.

3. Select the affected center from the drop-down list.

4. Decide whether you would like to report anonymously.
  • If you choose to stay anonymous, your email will not be associated with the complaint. This means that the investigator cannot follow up with you if they have questions, so it is very important that you provide sufficient information and evidence for them to at least begin an investigation.
  • If you choose to not remain anonymous, you must enter the email you wish to be contacted at. For more information about whistleblower protections, please see https://oig.nasa.gov/nasa-oig-whistleblower-protection/.

5. Describe your complaint in 1500 characters or less (likely around 300 words). Given the small available space and weight given to first hand documentation, it is highly recommended that you provide any relevant attachments or evidence in the “upload files” section. Multiple files are allowed. Again, if you choose to submit anonymously, we suggest providing sufficient evidence for OIG to at least begin an investigation if necessary.

6. Confirm that you’re not a robot and select “Submit.” If you chose to provide your email address, an investigator may follow up with additional questions.
