Amidst the chaos and frenzy of the building closure timelines enacted by management, a lot of equipment is being excessed very quickly. Below is a quick review of the proper process for excessing government equipment. Additionally, people in labs not impacted by building moves may be interested in the last section on Reclaiming Excessed Equipment to give a new home to equipment that other labs have been forced to excess. Excessing Non-Controlled Equipment
This refers to equipment that does not have a “tag”, or a sticker with a government tracking number on it. This equipment is normally excessed through MOSI. Scroll down to excess on the 270 tab. Note that there's a blurb that says furniture excess is on hold right now. https://mosi.ndc.nasa.gov/services/new/services.xhtml;jsessionid=463716B158E20C4208B44B57381555B4 (internal) Excessing Controlled Equipment This refers to “tagged” equipment and usually includes high-value electronics. The process for excessing this equipment is described in the link below. Generally, you will need to put a unique CUPID form on every item being excessed. https://nasa.sharepoint.com/sites/gsfc-ilmd/SitePages/GSFC-Material-Tracking-System.aspx (internal). Claiming Excessed Equipment Excessed equipment is supposed to be posted on equipment.nasa.gov (internal) for 24 days for internal NASA centers to claim. To view available equipment, click on “Reports”, then “Excess Shopping”. This will generate a report of available equipment filterable by item name, manufacturer, part number, etc. Comments are closed.
